Test
Usability and function testing
Before we did user testing of our new version we actually did usability testing and design correction by ourselves with reference to the previous version making sure that every function and feature worked accordingly. We then got our users who are browsing for jobs to do testing in comparison with our previous version.
What feedback we got from users
• There were features like keyword search that users were a bit
confusing at first but somehow they manage to get through using our
other search shortcuts and find the jobs they were searching for.
• There were some inconsistencies with design at some point because
we did use our old database and backend API
• The information and the wording of some actions are too lengthy..,
therefore some of the wordings are replaced with icons.
• Some users use too many filters at first and could not search for jobs,
there only relevant filters are displayed on the main page.
Learning and outcome
Connecting the dots
• Before doing anything you have to understand the product, the users, the business goals, and the ecosystem of the product that links together, in another word, you have to understand the big picture and the impact of the project you are doing, how it would affect the whole system of the company's business
• I learned how important it is to do product research and how to obtain users' requirements in order to design an experience that may as well answer the business objective.
• We have to go on with no solution in mind, questioning ourselves at every stage of the journey... what, why, when, where, how?
• It is easy to think of a solution beforehand, and only take away information from the research that confirms the initial beliefs, however, this will not solve all of the user's true pain points.
• I have learned that it is also important to experiment early on, especially during the start of the design process, because as we progress, it becomes even more difficult to make changes.
• I have learned that designing for different age groups is not easy you have to understand their situation and their background really well.
• I have also learned that communication is a key to success, collaborating with marketing teams, designers, programmers, or even the CEO. You must be able the present and communicate your works and make them follow you.
• Management is also a very important skill that I have learned because there are many projects running in parallel, you must be able to switch on to any project according to the priority.
• Lastly, not things are perfect, only appropriate. There will always be a change in every product development stage as trends are always changing competitors are always moving and the industry is also driving forward, therefore, no designs and solutions last forever. You should be able to work in an agile manner.
